| Mantra: Individual. Analytical. The Early Years: In 1984 Joe Gannon decided that a market existed for providing quality analytical laboratory work. Sitting at the kitchen table he came up with not only the name, Envirocorp, but the premise from which the laboratory would be built. Client’s would be treated exclusively as if they were the only client we had. In the beginning that wasn’t a hard mantra to live up to...because there were only 2. An old barn next to the house was demolished and the first “lab” was built. Joe was a one man show for the first few years. He would get in the family car (1976 toyota celica-yellow), drive to the client site, collect the samples, drive them home (literally-home), then spend the rest of the day running the various tests. After the tests were completed reports were hand written (in longhand by Joe) and typed up by various people willing to park in front of an old IBM typewriter for a few hours. Reports were then dropped off on the next visit so as to save on postage….this was way before fax and email! This circle of sampling, testing and typing continued until business picked up enough to justify some help. After a few months of going it alone, a secretary was hired to help out on the filing and typing end. A few years later a field tech was added, followed a year later by the first lab technician- aside from Joe himself….Earl Kunkle (see staff profile). Earl came over to Envirocorp from the same company Joe left just 3 years earlier. The rest as they say is history…fast forward 20 some odd years to today. The Current “Lab”: Today Envirocorp has maintained its small town roots while going through exponential physical changes. After moving from the “next to the house lab” in 1990 the lab was moved to Harrington, Delaware where it took up residence for the next 16 years in the old People’s Bank Building. The building was gutted to make room for lab equipment, however, the facility never left room expansion. In 2005, after finding a suitable space, Envirocorp embarked on the largest undertaking of its 20 plus year history. With the purchase of the former Ace Shirt factory (just down from the lab) we set out on expanding the operation to a modern laboratory space. In September of 2006 the new facility was finished and ready for business. With over 10,000ft2 of laboratory space and professional training facilities, the Envirocorp of today is aptly situated to be a major player in the Environmental market. Throughout the physical upgrades Envirocorp has maintained the same attitudes towards client commitment. Although a team of field techs has replaced Joe in the field, and a well-seasoned staff of laboratory techs has taken over day to day testing procedures, the dedication set forth at the kitchen table to treat every client individually has remained the same. We are still sitting at that same kitchen table….just everything around that table has grown. Check out our ask Joe link to talk directly to the guy who started it all… |
